Prof. Dr. İsmail Erton is the Director of the School of Foreign Languages at OSTİM Technical University and a professor of linguistics. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in English Linguistics from Hacettepe University, where he also completed his PhD in English Language Teaching. Prof. Erton began his academic career at Ankara University, where he served for three years, followed by eight years at Bilkent University and nineteen years at Atılım University before joining OSTİM Technical University, where he continues his academic and administrative work. He contributed significantly to the establishment of the Academic English Program at Bilkent University and the Department of Modern Languages within the School of Foreign Languages at Atılım University. From 2009 to 2024, he served as the director of the Academic Writing & Advisory Center (AWAC)®, which he established, and was also a member of the Executive Board of the School of Foreign Languages during this period. Prof. Erton’s scholarly contributions include numerous national and international journal articles, conference presentations, and book chapters in the fields of linguistics, translation studies, and English language teaching. He has also served as a referee for several international journals. Additionally, he held the role of Administrator in the European Union's OPTIMALE Project and actively contributed to the YÖKAK and FEDEK accreditation processes at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Atılım University. Throughout his career, he has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics, translation studies, academic English, and research techniques, and supervised approximately 25 master’s theses. He holds the International Certificate in English Language Teaching (CERTELT) from the United Kingdom. His doctoral dissertation, recognized and published by the U.S. Department of Education, underscores his global academic reach.

Instructor Ezgi Altınöz (Vice-Director)

Ezgi Altınöz is an instructor at OSTİM Technical University. She completed her undergraduate studies in English Language and Literature at Bilkent University with a full scholarship in 2020 and her master’s degree in Media and Visual Studies at the same university with a full scholarship in 2022. She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies with a full scholarship in Communication at İstanbul Bilgi University. Altınöz began her academic career as a teaching assistant at Bilkent University between 2021 and 2022 and has been serving as an instructor at OSTİM Technical University School of Foreign Languages since 2022. She held the position of vice head of the Department of Foreign Languages from 2022 to 2023 and has been the Vice Director of the School of Foreign Languages since 2023. She is also a member of the IPCC Conference organizing committee. She completed her master’s thesis with the title “Exploring the Everyday Cohabitations of Humans and Urban Animals through the Ecodocumentaries of Istanbul.” Additionally, Altınöz presented a paper titled "Thinking Non-Human Vision and Multispecies Response-Abilty through Situated Knowledges" at an international conference. Her research interests include environmental humanities, critical animal studies, human-animal relations, media studies, and cultural studies.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Berra ABBASOĞLU is the head of the Academic English Courses at OSTİM Technical University. She completed her BA and MA in the Department of English Language Teaching at the Faculty of Education of Tabriz Azad University between 1993 and 2001. She completed her PhD in English Language Teaching at Gazi University between 2005 and 2010. She started her academic career as an ELT (English Language Teaching) and EAP (English for Academic Purposes) instructor at Tabriz Azad University between 2001 and 2005. She worked as a Persian instructor at the Embassy of Iran in Ankara (FÖMER) between 2006 and 2008. Later, she trained students in the English Language Teaching department at the European University of Lefke in Northern Cyprus between 2008 and 2011. She continued for the following four years as an EAP instructor at Haliç University and Uşak University. In 2013, she traveled to the USA for short research in the field of English Language Teaching. In 2015, she started working in the English Language Teaching Department at Ufuk University. She has taught many undergraduate and graduate courses, such as Linguistics, Measurement and Evaluation, and Language Acquisition, and has advised approximately 10 completed Master’s theses. She has published many articles in international and national journals in the area of English Language Teaching and Assessment, as well as presented papers at international conferences and congresses. She is the co-author of a book on New Horizons in Educational Sciences.

M. İlker Kabakcı received his first bachelor's degree from the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University in 1999. After graduation, he worked and served in various public institutions for 11 years as a reporter and auditor. He earned his master's degree from the University of Georgia, USA, in 2022 and completed his PhD up to the candidate level at Hacettepe University. In 2022, he obtained his second bachelor's degree from the Department of Foreign Language Education at Middle East Technical University. He worked as a part-time instructor at Atılım University during the 2022-2023 academic year. Ebru Kürkcü graduated from the Department of English Translation and Interpreting Studies at Çankaya University in 2017. Fatma Özdemir is an educator with a diverse range of experiences, enriched by her work in different sectors and her international educational background. She completed her undergraduate studies in Environmental Engineering at Atatürk University. She completed her master's degree in Environmental Engineering at Sakarya University. In 2023, Fatma Özdemir graduated from the English Language Teaching program at the Middle East Technical University (METU). She also studied language, culture, and linguistics at SUNY New Paltz State University in the United States. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Administration at Hacettepe University. Fatma Özdemir began her professional career in Environmental Engineering at HSC Arıtım A.Ş. in Istanbul. She worked in the department responsible for the design and proposal preparation of clean water treatment projects. She also served as the department head of the international import and export division. Later, she was promoted to the position of Regional Manager. As the Regional Manager for the Ankara office, Fatma Özdemir was responsible for managing all operations in the Ankara region for HSC Arıtım A.Ş. This position represented a period of significant development for her leadership and management skills. While studying language, linguistics, and culture at SUNY New Paltz State University in the United States, she worked part-time in campus services for Sodexo. This experience provided her with the opportunity to work in the service sector in an international environment. Hüseyin Yıldırım is an instructor at OSTİM Technical University. He completed his undergraduate degree in English Language Education at Marmara University and his master’s degree in ELT at Gazi University. After his undergraduate studies, he successfully completed the "Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESL/TEFL)" program (3 months) and the "Basic & Advanced English Language Instructor Course" (6.5 months) in the United States. Since 1986, he has taught at the National Defense University, İnönü University, and, between 2013 and 2023, at Gazi University’s School of Foreign Languages. As of September 2023, he has been teaching at OSTİM Technical University’s School of Foreign Languages. Merve Nuran Tekinbaş is a lecturer at OSTİM Technical University’s School of Foreign Languages. She completed her bachelor’s degree in American Culture and Literature at Bilkent University and participated in the Erasmus program in Italy, focusing on Anglo-American Studies. She pursued graduate studies in Curriculum and Instruction at Bilkent University’s Graduate School of Education, successfully completing her teaching certification, but decided to forgo her thesis work to focus on her personal goals. Tekinbaş has extensive experience in education. She completed internships at Bilkent Laboratory & International School, TED Ankara High School, Robert College, and IDV Bilkent Primary and Middle School, accumulating 246 hours of classroom observation and 40 hours of teaching practice. She later taught high school preparatory classes at Bilkent Erzurum Laboratory School. She is fluent in Turkish and English at a native level and has basic proficiency in Spanish and Albanian. Naime Ertürk is an instructor at the School of Foreign Languages, OSTİM Technical University. She earned her bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from Ankara University in 2022 and is currently pursuing her master's degree at the same university. Her academic journey has included teaching roles at Ankara University, Atılım University, and now OSTİM Technical University, where she continues her academic endeavors. She has a strong interest in English theatre, poetry, and literature, with a particular focus on modern and postmodern theatre, as well as 18th-century English poetry and drama. She has contributed to academic research with international conference presentations and publications, such as her upcoming chapter, "Feeling and Healing with Theatre: Theatre in Turkey in the Aftermath of Covid-19 and the 2023 Earthquakes," to be published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Naime actively participates in academic conferences and has presented her research at prestigious institutions such as Heidelberg University. She is deeply committed to fostering a deeper understanding of English literature and its intersections with cultural and historical contexts.

Surhay Göç is an instructor at OSTİM Technical University, School of Foreign Languages. He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in English Language and Literature at Ankara Social Sciences University. His research interests include English language and literature, comparative literature, and existential philosophy. In 2024, he presented a paper at the 11th Ege International Conference on Social Sciences, where he analyzed Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet and Omar Khayyam’s Rubaiyat through a comparative lens, examining shared imagery and existential perspectives. In addition to his academic research, he continues to teach English and aims to further his studies in the fields of language, philosophy, and literature.

Şafak Kıvılcım Beşcanlar is an English Language instructor at the School of Foreign Languages at OSTİM Technical University. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in the Sociology of Education at Ankara University. She completed her undergraduate studies in English Language and Literature at Hacettepe University, where she also earned a minor degree in Sociology. In 2022, she completed the English Teaching Certificate program at Hacettepe University. Before joining OSTİM Technical University, Beşcanlar gained experience in English teaching and translation at various institutions. She has also been actively involved in volunteer programs and educational projects aimed at supporting primary and secondary school students in disadvantaged areas.

Timuçin Tüner graduated from Hacettepe University with a degree in English Linguistics in 2019. In the same year, he began working as an Export Specialist at MP Transformers, where he managed international client relations, documentation processes, and the preparation of marketing materials. He held this position until 2020. From 2020 onwards, he provided freelance translation services for international trade and law documents. He completed his Master’s degree in Asian Studies at Middle East Technical University in 2022 and, as of 2024, is pursuing a Master’s in Management of Higher Education at Hacettepe University. His academic career began in 2023 as an English Instructor at OSTİM Technical University, where he specializes in English language education, lesson planning, and multidisciplinary curriculum development.
Instructor Yaren Buse Özgenç

Yaren Buse Özgenç is an English Language instructor at OSTİM Technical University, where she has been teaching since October 2023. Since joining the Foreign Language Department, she has been committed to fostering a dynamic and supportive learning environment for her students. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in English Language Teaching at Middle East Technical University (METU), where she also completed her bachelor’s degree in the same field, graduating as the top student in her department. Additionally, she graduated from a dual diploma program, earning one diploma from METU and another from SUNY New Paltz in the United States, where she focused on Liberal Studies and Teaching English as a Foreign Language. During her time there, she gained firsthand experience and insights into English preparatory schools catering to non-native speakers. Her experience in this program strengthened her intercultural competencies and provided her with invaluable insights into global educational practices. Her academic and research interests span across several key areas of English language education, including linguistics, sociolinguistics, second language acquisition, teacher education and training, as well as language testing and assessment. She strives to inspire her students and foster an engaging, supportive learning environment, equipping them with the skills necessary for academic and linguistic success. She continues to seek opportunities for growth, both personally and in her teaching practice.

Yusuf Sönmez is an English instructor at the School of Foreign Languages at OSTİM Technical University, where he also works in the Translation Unit. He completed his undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature at Bilkent University and has been accepted into the master's program in English Literature and Cultural Studies at Çankaya University. Yusuf holds a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults). He began his professional career as an English teacher at Just English Language Schools. In addition to teaching, Yusuf has provided proofreading services for academic articles.

Arya Büyükaşık Er is currently working as an English Instructor at OSTİM Technical University, School of Foreign Languages. She completed her undergraduate education at Bilkent University, Department of English Language and Literature, between 2015 and 2019. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Translation and Cultural Studies at Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University. In 2017, she worked as a Trainee Translator at the Department of International Relations and the European Union of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations. Since 2019, she has worked as an English teacher at various institutions. Between 2021 and 2024, she provided education to students of different age groups on an online English learning platform.

Hacer Kır is an English language instructor at the School of Foreign Languages at OSTİM Technical University. She completed her undergraduate education in Foreign Language Education at Boğaziçi University and her master's degree in English Language Education at the same institution. Additionally, she participated in an exchange program at Seville University's Department of Educational Sciences in 2019. Her academic interests include individual learning differences, corpus linguistics, teacher cognition, technology-enhanced language teaching, and reading strategy training. In her master's thesis, Hacer Kır examined the effects of strategy training and individual learner differences on L2 reading comprehension. She has also contributed to various projects related to language teaching and learning; one of these studies was presented as a paper at the TESOL 2022 International Congress. Apart from her academic work, she has earned certificates in various areas, including English article writing and publishing, the education of refugee children, and has participated in voluntary training programs. In 2020, she was awarded the TÜBİTAK 2210 Domestic Postgraduate Scholarship.

Gurur Irem Biyikoglu is an instructor at OSTİM Technical University's School of Foreign Languages. She completed her Bachelor's degree in the Department of English Translation and Interpreting at Atılım University. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in the Department of International Trade and Logistics at Atılım University. In the first year after graduating with her Bachelor's degree, she worked as a reporting specialist at the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies. In this role, she wrote reports on current issues in the tourism sector in collaboration with academics from tourism departments at various universities, translated international tourism news, and managed the institution's social media. In addition to English, she speaks Russian. She is one of the founding members of the Maviay Association. Her area of expertise in her Master's program includes "Cold Chain Logistics and Applications, Logistics Operations, and Transportation."

Ali Akyüz is an educator, coordinator, and group leader with over a decade of experience in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). He has worked in both public and private institutions, specializing in English language education and occupational health and safety (OHS). His academic research and teaching expertise have significantly contributed to the field of education. Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in OHS at Bozok University, he holds an MA in OHS from Hitit University and an MA in English Language Education from Gazi University. He also completed undergraduate studies in International Relations at Anadolu University and English Language Education at Uludağ University. As a lecturer at OSTİM Technical University, Ali Akyüz focuses on developing his students’ language skills to align with their professional objectives. He has also served as an English teacher and coordinator at reputable institutions, managing course planning and implementation. His research interests include the interdisciplinary applications of NLP techniques in language teaching and occupational safety analysis. To enhance his professional expertise, he has participated in various training programs, including language development tools, modern teaching methodologies, TPR, and storytelling techniques. Beyond his academic work, Ali Akyüz enjoys research, travel, and reading. He is also committed to environmental awareness as a member of Greenpeace and the Turkish Green Crescent Association. With his extensive knowledge and leadership abilities, he continues to make impactful contributions to both English language education and OHS.

Leyla Asena Gülden is a lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages at OSTİM Technical University. Şevval Tufan is a lecturer in the Modern Languages Department at OSTİM Technical University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, with a minor in English Translation and Interpreting, from Hacettepe University in 2022. In the same year, she began her master’s studies in American Culture and Literature at Hacettepe University. In 2023, she completed a TESOL certificate and obtained a Pedagogical Formation certificate from Gazi University. She is currently working on her thesis. She has teaching experience, having worked as an instructor at Ankara Bilim University from October 2022 to March 2024, at Ankara University TÖMER from March 2024 to October 2024, and currently at OSTİM Technical University since September 2024. Additionally, she worked as a lecturer for the Ministry of the Interior between 2022 and 2023. Between 2020 and 2023, she participated in the Children's Literature Summer School at Trinity College Dublin. Her academic interests include science fiction, ecofeminism, animal studies, and video game studies, reflecting her dedication to exploring diverse and interdisciplinary fields. In addition to her interests in the social sciences, she also has experience in aviation, the automotive industry, and e-commerce.

She served at the Military Academy, NATO Allied Land Command, and various military training institutions. Füsun Kaplan retired from the National Defense University Military Academy in 2022. She has been working at OSTİM Technical University since then.

Alperen Yedekçi is a part-time instructor at OSTİM Technical University, Modern Languages Unit. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the Department of English Language and Literature at Ankara Social Sciences University, graduating in 2023. His academic interests include fantasy and science fiction literature, comic book and graphic novel studies, manga and anime studies, theatre, and utopian/dystopian literature.
